Western South Africa
is an extraordinarily biodiverse region, and an indispensable destination
for the eco-tourist in southern Africa. Indeed, there are no other
areas in Africa that offer such a high level of endemism in such
a uniquely accessible setting. The region is legendary among international
and local birders alike for the remarkable suite of birds which
are found here and nowhere else in the world: a staggering 47 of
South Africa’s 58 endemic bird species occur here, as well
as 70 per cent of southern Africa’s 180.
For the more focused birder we offer the
option of an endemic-focused day trip targeting particular endemic
species.
